Anon5: when was the last time you read information about pandas? 2006? Here's a science update, free of charge from Google: Giant pandas are full genetic members of the Ursidae family, and their closest related species is the Spectacled Bear.
Here's an extra side trivia: the Red panda is not related to the Giant Panda, similarities between them are just a case of congruent environmental adaptation, Reds are actually more closely related to weasels than Giants, bears, or even raccoons.
