Final Fantasy is a prime example of a franchise that could use going back to it's origins to regain it's soul and initial drive.
The original game "fairy tale" is pretty romantic in itself - sell or bust, as the final attempt in a dubious career for the creators.
Now Final Fantasy is a series that actively avoids what old fans are asking for because it doesn't want to deal with high expectations and disappointments. Instead, it sticks to formulaic plots, mobile expansions and "HD ports".
