And not just any hokage, the best of the vilage's history, surpassing the shodaime and the sandaime. Now if that's not extreme character growth over the years, i don't know what it is... :p

Hokage, or rather Kage in general means overrated shit these days.
Liking Naruto is the same as admitting that you are loser like him, and that's why you can associate with such garbage, and hate attractive geniuses in whom the most girls are interested.

Naruto saving the world is one thing, but look at his hokage accomplishments. Just from looking at the urban growth of the village under Naruto's reign, you can measure what kind of hokage he is compared to any of his predecessors. Peace and prosperity have never been as strong as with him, and he keeps that peace and cooperation with all 4 other villages, as we've seen the gokage meetings have become a routine procedure than a crisis resolution tool.
On that regard, the Shodaime comes second for his ability to create the village and cause the other nation to create their own villages, turning a ward torn world into something of a more stable nation system, even if said nations and villages were still at odd with each other. And third position would go to sandaime, this time mostly because of his very long reign allowing him to adapt the village again and again, as well as having saved the village through so many wars and incidents.
That's not saying the others are bad, it's just that if i have to pick up 3 of them to stand out, it'd choose these 3 in that order for these reasons.

He can be Kage of the Universe as fara as I'm concerned, but the moment Kakashi put his fingers into his ass at the beginning, it was all over for him as a character.
Taking him seriously even in serious situations is like taking seriously clown telling jokes at someone's funeral.
Asuma, for instance, who compared to Naruto, barely had enough screentime was far better, natural, and balanced character, and many, many others...
