Upvote! Upvote! Upvote!

"Hey guys, get over it. It's been around for awhile and hey...it's a fantasy/scifi series. There have been way more impractical weapons in the star wars universe. Light Whip anyone?"

FUCK YOU!!! It's a horrible idea! DOWNVOTE INFINITY!!!

The only way I am going to take anyone wielding THIS thing seriously is if I am being cut into pieces by that lightsaber or at least impaled by it.

And yet it still makes slightly more sense than Darth Maul's double saber (since actual double sabers usually tilt the blades so that slashing with one blade would, at worst, cause the blunt side of the second to hit its owner).

Still have to give it badass points until proven otherwise. Extra points if the cross-guard sabers can be deployed separately (lightsaber throwing knives, anyone?)

@Anon#1679188: Eh, I personally prefer to call the Expanded Universe ("Legends") version by its other name, the "forked lightsaber".

I will agree that most of the people who complain about this type of lightsaber, it being "impractical" and such, remain unaware of the obvious...despite recognizing that the character of Kylo Ren is a Force-user.
^
No normal person can effectively wield a lightsaber. Not even the traditional single-hilt lightsaber is safe in the hands of one who isn't Force-sensitive. Especially considering that all lightsabers are practically weightless.

You can be sure that Kylo Ren is skilled with this type of lightsaber, and will never be under threat of cutting himself with it. Yes, EVEN if he twirls it, which will be no surprise if he does decide to show off that way in the new movie.

This may be a fictional universe, but even something this "impractical"-seeming can be logically explained.

That link has the guard in a 45° angle, which makes sense because it doesn't get remotely as much in the way.
And it's not about knowing swords or not, it's about authors not instantly writing down everything they think of but actually using their brain if there is any chance this could even work cause everyone with half a brain will realize a 90° lightsaber cross guard is far more dangerous to the wielder than to any enemies.

But in the end, SW is hardly known for taking things seriously. Just about looking cool.

Oh and the new SW looks to have a number of silly YA movie cliches.
Still, can't say the second trilogy was any different. I guess as long as there are spaceship battles and Jedis I am fine with it.

PS: someone skilled with a sword could wield a lightsaber well enough, there is barely any difference to a double-edged sword. Anyone saying otherwise has no clue about sword fighting and is just being a fanboy trying to make jedis look more amazing.

Why Kylo Ren's Lightsaber Works (Because Science w/ Kyle Hill)

If you fail to do so, then still argue that it is unfeasible, you sir(s) are an idiot.
