If they have him twirl this weapon a single time i'm leaving the movie.

I've been around swords long enough to know that this is bullshit. Your hands, body touch guard a lot. Especially when its as long as this one's is.

Stupid guard is stupid.
Yes, I know, this is not real life, but a Force user wielding a lightsaber... still, it's impractical.

There are moves when you actually grab a crossguard on a medieval type of sword to attack or defend.
Not to mention the tsuba on a katana, which you literally touch almost all the time :)

Well, this is fiction, so it can be overlooked as moviemakers not knowing much about swords :)

Or, the Sith going for intimidation factor, and being an idiot...

Yes, even good bad guys can do stupid shit!

Yea I wanna see 'em guard a lightsaber by grabbing it. That will go over extremely well.

Get the fuck over it, people. So much nerd-rage over a 30 second teaser trailer.

Seems none of you heard of or remember Sabers like these in the expanded universe...

The first 4 commenters know nothing about the star wars universe. It isn't about whether this is logical or not, this is and has been fucking canon for years in the books.

"This doesn't make sense, how impractical!" They said as they commented on a picture of a person filled with demonic cosmic energy wielding a sword made of pure energy. "He wouldn't be able to grab the cross guard!" They lamented, as if that mattered when the fictional sword could slice through most materials in the universe. Or that it could be blocked by a similar blade as if energy were a physical thing. Their suspension of disbelief was sorely lacking.

starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Crossguard_lightsaber

These types of lightsabers have been around since 2004. It's nothing new. The only people having a fit about this are people that just don't know about stuff in the expanded universes.
