IMPO Maybe because she is the normal girl of the series that every otaku secretly wants to meet in real life. She is smart, cute, girly, and shy in a realistic or non-exaggerated way (most of the time). Yui has demonstrated that she has qualities of being a good mother, hard-worker and leader, which many find appealing. Despite having a body that can easily provoke lust, she still manages to look very adorable and make men want to protect her (be nice to her). I still remember how much I actually liked her St. Valentine's Day story, and how the author admitted that he enjoyed writing it in a style similar to shoujo manga. BTW Somebody wrote an article trying to understand why Mio Akiyama was popular, it's very useful when you consider that she is very similar to Yui. blog.eternicity.net/2009/...-analysis-of-akiyama-mio/
