@leatherhead93: That's a big understatement -- the English dub hardly follows the Japanese version at all. 4Kids pretty much REWROTE the whole story and rescored the soundtrack with music "to better reflect what American kids would respond to."

Miyazaki's Mewtwo theme is one melody, same as Loeffler's. The replacement soundtrack was fine.
As for the movie: great first half, glacial second half- and THAT's what kills it. I'll match anon 2 in reading Dogasu (or referring to the same sources) and point out that the tunnel dive bit was requested because the movie had no action, it was basically standing and talking. When you have established plain as day that your villain is unstoppable in the first ten minutes, you have nowhere to go.
The clones actually make MORE sense in the English version (which took the movie in an equally plausible, albeit entirely unsubtle direction) because Mewtwo's on the war path; in the original they only render Mewtwo a hypocrite by his creating even more of the unnatural life he finds so unjust.
