If Ash kept his old Pokemon, they've overshadow his new ones. Remember what happened in Johto? Ash's Johto barely got any screentime or battles because his Kanto ones hogged the spotlight.

Duh? Where do you think "Shota" comes from? It's a shortening of the name "Shotaro". It's used as a general tag because of "Shotacon" or "Shotaro Complex", describing an attraction to young boys; which is derived from a popular little boy character from an old anime. It's much the same with "Loli", which comes from "Lolicon", "Lolita Complex"; which is derived from the character from the novel Lolita.
