WTF ? Birdramon and Kabuterimon you idiots, you know well Alphamon is one of the stronger mega-digimon, it makes no sense attacking him in your champion forms... *facepalm*

Actually these Kids didn't knew what Level Alphamon was. How could they? Alphamon never appeared in Digimon Adventure, Royal Knights aren't a thing there (at least for now) and Izzy's Laptop was only displaying the name like a Pokedex entry prior to catching a Pokemon.

Yep Izzy said himself all he got was his name from his laptop. It's not all that apparent that he is a Mega, he could have been a Ultimate for all they knew (even though his name is the opposite of Omegamon's).

Well it's not like lower level digimon haven't defeated higher level ones.

(Not counting the power of friendship or burning justice power-ups)

Yet when they clashed with Milleniumon they knew its rank despite it being, you know, an entirely new digimon species ? So i can get by the fact they did not know he was a royal knight (though they've had years now to study the digiworld lore, possibly with the help of celestial guardians like Azulongmon) but at least a mega-level they could.

Except that the "Digimon Lore" is different between the Universes. There are no Royal Knight group in the Adventure Universe (yet). So far they only exist in Season 4, 5, Xros Wars Manga and some games like Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth and anything X-Antibody related..

Actually, the "lore" is more or less the same, what changes (radically) is the timeline and its list of events and its connection to the human world. The one and only type of being so far that i've found specific to one source is the D-reaper from season 3 "Digimon Tamers", even counting the games and mangas. Even Yggdrasil is not specific to one universe since he's both in season 5 and in a manga (forgot the title).

So yes, there always were royal knights in the adventure universe, our heroes had yet to meet them that's all. But still, like i said, this only covers Alphamon's royal knight title, not his status as a mega, which our heroes have proved to be able to detect accurately for brand new species like Diaboromon's evolution line (not Milleniumon, my bad). And for those believing our heroes just counted his number of evolutions : he bypassed champion form by warp-digivolving to ultimate form.

All in all, what i'm saying is they could have known they were facing a mega and be more careful instead of rushing in champion form...

Just because something isn't specific to one source doesn't automatically mean it's probably in every source. RK's existence in Adventure wouldn't even make sense. If they serve a good lord why did Genai felt the need to make Chosen Children when the RK would protect the Digiworld on their own? If they serve a bad lord why didn't they attack sooner when there were less chosen children to stand in their way?
In my opinion we will see the creation of the Royal Knight group in Tri. if anything. The Founder is Imperialdramon PM and 2 members, Omegamon and Magnamon are already in the party of our main cast (more or less). We saw a Alphamon, who clearly didn't seem to recognize Omegamon as his comrade and Hackmon hasn't reached his RK form yet.

I agree. Nothing other than digimon existing is canon. The Royal Knights, Harmonious Ones, Sovereigns, Yydresill, Celestial Angel Digimon, D-Reaper, etc. None of it has even been stated to be canon across the series. Hell, Digimon were man-made programs in some series, while anomallies in others. According to season 3 (Tamers) Season 01 and 02 are a television show , yet they show up in Season 6 (Xros Wars). Some elements are re-used, but only at the writers choice. Some writers liked Japanese Lore, so they brought back the 4 Gods, others liked Norse Myths... Others liked Knights... Or Angels. Its all random, so there is no proof that the Royal Knights exist in The Adventure/02/tri. universe. Izumi states, he saw only a name. It seems the only person(s) with knowledge of Alphamon are the Digimon-Shield Agents. Plus, we've seen them attack a mega at Champion in formation like that before. And there's no proof the others could even get to Ultimate, Tailmon never digivolved at all. Omegamon has always existed outside the rules of digivolution. Omegamon has digivolved despite supposedly being unable atleast once already... Our War Games/Digimon: The Movie, which was stayed as being after they all gave up their crests and lost their Ultimate and Mega forms. Two times, if you count Revenge of Diaboramon, where Gabumon is never seen past WereGarurumon, and most of their powers are severely limited (though, the second one is never comfirmed, and is merely fan-speculation based on the tone and dialogue from the series, compared to the movie.)
