They have a point, different cultures caters to different things and the West and East are pretty typical when it comes to their characters and how they're portrayed. Its not an absolution of course.. but it is majority of the time.

well, actually in this case it'd probably make sense, since cloud (or really a good number of the FF protagonists) have a nordic background. Cloud probably would look something close to this.
