Tatsumi is a terrible character. While the ending wasn't all that good, Tatsumi dying before the last episode was a good thing.

I actually like how sudden his death was.
The whole anime you think he'll survive because he is basically the main character and because he was learning from all the other over the course of the series.
And then, right before the end, he dies.
