Could be a relic from the Poké-wars. You'd probably find the bodies of all the main characters' dads in there (minus Norman).
...Yes, the Poké-wars were fought with giant mechs. Team Rocket does it all the time.

On the other hand, it looks like someone dropped a Metagross into a scene from Star Wars.
