So Ash gets an alternate form for one of his Pokèmon.
Everyone else gets a Mega Evolution.

Ash-Greninja IS a Mega Evolution. It gives off the same energy, and the power boost Greninja gets from transforming is the same as a Mega.

trw: +1 in your first comment, the writter must have something against ash. i can understand that they make him loose the league, because if he do become a pokemon master, they'll have to stop is trip.
but for the mega-evolution, Ash have a half-dozen of pokemon who could potentially mega-evolve: his sceptile, charizard, glalie, Heracross...
and i'm not even talkin about thoses that he have freed or leaved int the care of someone else, thoses who might have evolved since then, but might perfectly make an ocasional come back to help him, like pidgeot, squirtle as a blastoise, bulbasaur as a venusaur, haunter as a gengar, or larvitar...
He have created special bond with most of theses pokemon and all. They could make whatever plot to include one of ash's old pokemon, even if it's just for one epidode. but no, no mega for ash.

I thought giving Ash a Syncbro instead of a Mega made him special? I don't think the writer's hate Ash, and at the very least this season and XY as a whole has been much better(but maybe it's because BW was so bad.) Especially with the shit Ash pulled against Diantha, yeah he lost, but he put up a fight which is something he's never really done in the past(I'm well aware Orange Islands was thing but I can't really count it because the rules were so different) and while Diantha is pretty freaking easy in the games, I'm assuming anime rules take over here and she's quite formidable, I think the closest thing to that would be the battle frontier.

Think about it from where Ash is standing, he enters a league that would probably be compared to a real life tournament(cards, vidya, etc...) and multiple times he's come out pretty far ahead, I guess that doesn't really mean much because we haven't seen this league play out, but still they've pulled so many "Ash the man" moments in this series if he lost I don't think I would care as much as I did in the past. And I guess at the very least while he hasn't acknowledged her in that way, they gave him a waifu.

the dudes have been giving him waifus since 19 years, now. but we don't want to talk about it, really.
to gt back to the topic, they weren't trying to make him "special', nor they where hating him. it's just that the rule is "when ash travel to a new region, he let is pokemon to prof OAK, he get new pokemon (mainly pokemon of the new region, with few exceptions), and travel and fight in this region with theses new pokemon. they just don't want to bring back is old pokemon.
But, the consequence of that is.... there's only one gen6 pokemon to have a mega-evolution, and it is Diancie, a legendary pokemon: No mega for ash (or not for now, at least)
So, Ash will have to fight lot of trainers who use mega-evolution, but can't have mega-evolution, what do we do? ==> Invent something that can put up with mega-evolution for one of is pokemon.
