Charizard has come back multiple times, and Sceptile came back for the Sinnoh League. so Greninja has a chance to be brought back at some point.

What if, and I'm saying that hypothetically Ash wins the league (no Flare invasion) and all his pokemon left with Prof. Oak fight for him in the Champion league. If anyone noticed Malva is the only elite 4 shown and that's Flare linked. Usually we see 3 out of 4 Elite 4 members during the journey with Ash so we may see Ash take that path after Olympia's prophecy has been fulfilled.

Imagine if he brought all of his strongest, and most badass Pokemon on one team for a league? Right now that team would be Charizard, Sceptile, Infernape, Greninja and Pikachu, becuase of course he would include Pikachu. So that leaves one spot open in his team. Maybe he's going to capture another really badass Pokemon in Alola?

^ The final spot has a few potential candidates. Snorlax (when it's actually awake), Torterra, Primeape (if he ever decides that several years of training with a pro boxer is enough), or even Pidgeot.
