So normally, Blanche is a girl right? I wouldn't have guessed that given that the official art confused me thinking she was a he. Curse these androgynous character designs!

So isn't Blanche a girl?

Yes Blanche is a girl. Blanche is a girl's name. It is frustrating to see so much confusion over this.

There are some guys with girls name, like Susan (Mandark) from Dexter's Lab. And there are some girls with guys name too. But by the end of the day, Blanche can be whatever Blanche wants. <3

Even Bulbapedia says: "She is researching Pokémon Evolution, and Team Mystic Trainers believe that by staying calm and analysing every situation, they can't lose."

Stud, it might be the case sometimes of girl names on boys but it happens NEVER with the word Blanche. if this were a guy, he'd be called Blanc.

heres the thing with french word : unlike english, they can be gendered

Blanche is exclusively feminine
Blanc is exclusively masculine
both means white

Anon4 You are a liar and I'll tell you why. First off I will add that I believe Blanche is intentionally left ambiguous. S/he is in the center of the released image which is minor, but it's also an ideal choice since there is already a female and male representative. Here is my proof and real text from bulbapedia which is on altered by me capitalizing the key term to support my claim.

Spark (Japanese: スパーク Spark)
Team Instinct (Japanese: チーム・インスティンクト Team Instinct)
HE is researching Pokémon breeding, and Team Instinct Trainers believe a Pokémon's intuition is linked to how they are hatched. They are represented by Zapdos.

Blanche (Japanese: ブランシェ Blanche)
Team Mystic (Japanese: チーム・ミスティック Team Mystic)
BLANCHE is researching Pokémon Evolution, and Team Mystic Trainers believe that by staying calm and analyzing every situation, they can't lose. They are represented by Articuno.

Candela (Japanese: キャンデラ Candela)
Team Valor (Japanese: チーム・ヴァーラー Team Valor)
SHE is researching Pokémon strength, and Team Valor Trainers believe that their Pokémon are the strongest because they train to naturally enhancing a Pokémon's power in search of true strength. They are represented by Moltres.

How come Blanche is the only one not described using a gender specific term for a description so simple. They did it for the other two. Well there it is. You're welcome everybody.

It might also be because there isn't really a gender-specific term in Japanese that would make sense to use if you know someone's name. In Japanese, even with informal or even slangy speach, you always refer to someone by name if you know their name. The only exception I've seen is when their name was already used within the same sentence.

So, basically what I'm saying is that in the original Japanese, Spark and Candela were also referred to by name. Why weren't they when Blanche was? Because that's how translations work; they're all equivalent English translations of the Japanese text.

^makes no sense, it's not as if they are of a different species. If they could say her or she to the other two why wouldn't they for Blanche? or more so from your post, why were they all changed to be gender specific with blanche being the exception when converted to english? Ask yourself "why the one who is androgynous?" And it's clear. All three of them are known by name but not all three are known by gender. I agree with the current non binary choice less controversy.

I mean I don't want to bash anyone's idea of what his or her gender may be I just don't think Blanche is meant specified at least by now. Through my research and current knowledge there has been no official statement in fact some of you may have noticed by now that the personality traits of the three are being completely manhandled by the fans. With Spark being sort of a dweeb who dabs, runs like Naruto, and probably uses heelies. Candela being a "hot lesbian" and Blanche being a NB (non-binary) coupled with the "Are you a girl or a boy?" statement that is always at the beginning of the games to which his/her response is " I am the leader of Team Mystic" which is going to be my answer for now on. Everyone has the right to their own opinion and I'm sure we'll be getting art that varies between male and female.
