As a thief being given the treatment, surely you'd cut her stomach open, then pull her guts out to hang down as an apron, soas to humiliate & torture her even more, as a deterent to other would-be crimunals I mean.

Using a fresh corpse while it's still warm is not that uncommon; in Ancient Egypt families of comely girls who had died would keep the corpses at home until they started to stink. This way, the embalmers weren't likely to use it as a sex toy and sperm receptacle.
