It does strike me that Crystal Prep's environment really doesn't lend itself to team sports. While the Wondercolts would be working together just like this, the Shadowbolts would struggle, since no one of them wants any of the others to gain more success or prestige.

Many of the events in Friendship Games seem to have been influenced by this as well. It's clear that the Academic Decathlon is an individual elimination event, and the second round event really just came down to individual races. The archery contest was the only time BOTH teammates had to score before the next round began.
