If the reason for this massive 180 really is yokai watch, the why? Pokemon still dominates the rest of the world and while it may not mean much, I've seen numerous people mention how YK is starting to peak in Japan. Granted, I guess there's still the fact that Japan apparently hates serious, shonen pokemon, but come on. Still gonna watch and hope for the best.

If the reason for this massive 180 really is yokai watch, the why? Pokemon still dominates the rest of the world and while it may not mean much, I've seen numerous people mention how YK is starting to peak in Japan. Granted, I guess there's still the fact that Japan apparently hates serious, shonen pokemon, but come on. Still gonna watch and hope for the best.

I don't think this is especially "because of yokai watch" just that we're no longer in 1998 when a kid going on adventure alone and traveling with people he have just met, mewtwo killing ash, and other such things was'nt a problem for anyone. nowadays, you make a show for kid, if you put anything serious on it, you have the morals guardians and sjf on you ass, complaining about everything.
also, second and more important point, the pokemon anime is quite merchandise seller franchise, and younger kids are more akin to ask there parents for a toy out of their fav anime than preteen. It's also easier to make toys (with collectible z crystals) out of it than a more serious thing. Hence the change from Shonen to Kodomo anime.

I don't think this is especially "because of yokai watch" just that we're no longer in 1998 when a kid going on adventure alone and traveling with people he have just met, mewtwo killing ash, and other such things was'nt a problem for anyone. nowadays, you make a show for kid, if you put anything serious on it, you have the morals guardians and sjf on you ass, complaining about everything.

As to that first part, I highly doubt that's the reason. The games got rid of gyms, so now they gotta try something else. They could just make it sort of like an extended Orange League depending on how the Island Trials are handled in the games, but I doubt they give enough of a shit to do that again. Plus high school setting is a popular thing in Japan.
That second part is depressing because it reminds me of what happened with Megas XLR.

They could just make it sort of like an extended Orange League depending on how the Island Trials are handled in the games, but I doubt they give enough of a shit to do that again. Lg_negi, if that was just due to the absence of gym, they could have gone for more focus on the myth arc, the aether fundation, and the fight against team skull, or absolutely wathever they want, since they where free. but it would have mean "going more shonen anime that they ever did" (and action shonen is also one of the most popular genre in japan) ,while school setting not only cash on the popularity of school setting, and also make the show more inofensive and kid oriented. Sure they have the occasion to do this thanks to the absence of league, but that's still one of the reason.
