You just know there are going to be CreepyPastas about her. Allow me to start the scary fan-theories:
Acerola was a kind but sickly child who loved everyone. She even befriended a local Mimikyu which everyone else thought was creepy and weird. She formed a close bond with the Mimikyu and even disclosed to her shy Pokemon friend her aspirations to become a strong Pokemon trainer when she got older...
Unfortunately the poor girl ended up succumbing to her disease in the midst of playing with her friend Mimikyu in the woods. Overcome by sorrow at the loss of the only friend it ever had and the fact that Acerola's dream would never come to pass, Mimikyu became wrought with grief to the point of it not willing to accept the reality of her passing. Deluded by depression, Mimikyu cut open Acerola's dead body, began cleaning it, and patched it up for use...And using its skills at making costumes created the ultimate disguise for Mimikyu to live inside and control...the lifeless corpse that was once its best friend.
Mimicing Acerola's voice, not even her family was able to tell that the girl they knew and loved had already died. This explains why Acerola does not appear to age, because she is nothing but a cadaver puppet that Mimikyu controls from inside her. Determined to make Acerola's dreams a reality, Mimikyu used her body and became a trainer in her stead, eventually became a Trial Captain, and later even a member of the Elite Four.
In spite of the macabre machinations, Acerola's soul was happy its friend went to such lengths to make her dream come true and that because of Mimikyu's actions that they will always be together forever in their own special way even though death separates them.
