Maybe rock types are weak to water, because they like baths so much that they drop their guard when even hit by water.

Or it's about erosion. You decide which is more believable.

Yeah I think it's supposed to be actual attacks and real force that actually hurts the pokemon. I don't think a mere sprinkler would kill a Rhyhorn like that.

Not to mention some pokemon that are weak to water can learn surf to swim in it, or even live in water like Stunfisk.
