Except the feelings are amplified, as well as the competition. Serena openly loves Ash, while Misty had a strong crush at best.

So paranoia is easily understandable when your future husband is going to possibly be travelling with not one, not two, but 3 potential waifu's, thus amplifying Misty's reactions practically tenfold.
