Jokes aside, this is what would actually happen in the end. Tohru might think she'd treasure that (and probably will), but even then, you don't know what you have until it's gone.

@ Anon6 That is true. I would like it though if at one point Tohru found a way to become mortal or to make Kobayashi inmortal (not necessarily that they'd use it).
