Well, anon2, the day they can make Toy Story on a desktop PC is the day it will happen. I agree with you about the scenario, but it would take a lot of innovation and changes in current hardware architecture to make it possible. We're definitely headed the right direction (multiple quad-core capable systems with endless RAM), so maybe someday in your lifetime.

The major reason the graphics in game are they are is for a few reasons.
1.) The game is based on warcraft, and alot of the building and characters and such are based on WC3.
2.) The game is made to be played by people with the worst of computers. Even raising the minimum requirments by one VGA generation or something might make it so millions can't play, which means less money.
3.) If the graphics were too good, people would sue that as an excuse to bash them for spending too much time on graphics and not on content.
Every xpac has given us better graphics. Compare armor from a T7 set to items from vanilla. The textures are better and theres more effects and higher poly counts. Boots and gloves are more than skins now. In patch 3.1, they've advertised "Ultra Graphics Settings". Give it time. They give more graphics as the average consumer upgrades.

Your number 1 and 2 are pretty much on the mark, but three? Not so much.
There would be no legal grounds to sue Blizzard, at all. Blizzard is basically allowed to do whatever they want to the game, as in the TOS, and if it's a change that you don't agree with, well, tough luck, quit.
