I don't think I've ever seen any Japanese fan art reference the subject as much as others feel the need to.

Surely they aknowledge it, but I think they don't have a major problem with it like western fans do. They do have Doraemon, after all.

Funny how Red and Green (game canon) have a problem with Ash (anime canon), considering Wally is featured in SM right netx to them too, yet still looks exactly the same as he did in ORAS. The Hoenn games happen at the same time as the Kanto games according to the timeline.
