I must admit, that I'm growing weary of seeing these two paired together. I don't understand, how the pairing even began, but regardless, it's not something I care to keep seeing.

They take an interest in each other because they both have a history of torturing people, and the dialouge comes off as flirting. Especially from Hijikata.
