There's a certain dialect in Japan that often gets translated into southern english.
Maybe she had that dialect in the original JP version? No idea.
It doesn't bother me so much, but I can see why others would be.

As mentioned, Japan tends to use the Kansai dialect as one of their go-to accents for characters (like how western media loves the sexually adventurous European woman, moustache-twirling British villain, etc). The Kansai dialect usually gets translated/localised into a Southern accent, since the usual implication behind the Kansai accent is that the character is meant to be "different from the norm". That may be the case here.
