They couldn't really have had this as an ending without significantly altering the theme of the game, Monkia was in love with US, not the protag in DDLC. You can't represent that as an ending with a CG screen.

However, a more profound way to think of it is that Monika has broken the boundaries in the only was a fictional character can - by leaving a mark on our hearts and minds. In this way she has accomplished what this picture is showing.
