^ I don't know why but they switched their names in the western releases. We tag them using their original Japanese names. This character was known as Balrog in the original Japanese version.

M. Bison is the boxer in Japan, where the M stand for Mike. Capcom was afraid Miky Tyson would sue them over the character being clearly based off him, so they switched his name with the dictator character with the idea that the M now stood for Master. (I don't know if that was ever made official, though)

However, the people (or person) in charge of the localisation didn't like Vega for the boxer as they felt it didn't fit, so they named him Balrog and gave the Vega name to Claw.
