The pose was lifted from a random comic panel of Captain America. It wasn't the best idea on Toyotaro's part, but it was pretty much a non-issue.
Most of the people trying to blow the issue up to be something bigger than it needed to be already hated Toyotaro's work on Super and had it out for him. A lot of people were just taking advantage of the situation to try and get Toyotaro fired/the manga canceled out of spite.
Some people were disappointed with Toyotaro lack of creativity and that's fine, but most of the people rioting on twitter couldn't care less about artistic integrity and were just trying to sate their petty grudges. Nothing more than typical fandom tribalism.
