In the japanese original game M. Bison was the boxer. but american Publisher didn't want to get in trouble with Mike Tyson by having a rather dumb seeming boxer character with a Name similar to him. So they switched M. Bison to Balrog, Vega to M. Bison and Balrog to Vega.
