The creator of TTGL has stated that spirals are based on Getter rays, they are basically the same thing, the thing is, I've seen getter rays showing the secrets of the universe, the reasons of why ppl exist and such, in other words cosmic awareness or even omniscience, I've never saw Spirals doing that.
I've also seen Shin Getter power up according to the lvl of the menace, he faces, he more powerfull it is, the more Getter Rays he gets, this aside from the fact that he assimilates whatever touches him, not hacking like Lagann, but a fully assimilation into his body, he has assimilated Nukes, people mechs that threathened the Earth, the entire Dinosaur empire, etc... and he also absorbs energy BTW.
And Shin Getter ends up evolving into Getter Emperor that can grow up as much as he wants (like TTGL), images at the middle or start of Shin Getter Manga showed Getter Emperor in the size of a planet, at the end he's crushing them between his fingers, there is scan around that shows him bigger than Galaxies.

why would they fight in the first place? I thought simon wanted the universe to go on forever. a fight between the getter and gurren lagann would destroy everything.
