Her voice actress died, though. That usually tends to kill additional seasons of a show. It's why we haven't gotten any more Nyaruko, and they *tried* to do more Illya, but it was still weird even with Sapphire being a supporting character.

It sucks this won’t get a second season. I know there are quite a few great anime that don’t get another season for one reason or another and this show has a perfectly understandable and valid one for not returning but honestly the theme, message and setting of the story is more relevant now than ever.

They could still try something. I'm thinking of Fate/Kaleid Prisma Illya, where they respectfully replaced Miyu Mastuki for the last season, but maybe it's because she was a side character.
