Gumi (Oleaster)
Little timber can be obtained from oleaster, but the wood is fine and has a uniquely strong, rubber-like elasticity. Its shock-absorbing properties make it ideal for making the handles of chisels and hammers. Since it absorbs minute vibrations, it is said to make chiseling less tiring on the hands.
