Aspada, the Hyper Sonic form was something that came up in the games before Super Saiyans in Dragonball Z were ever shown.

And PrevAnon, higher speed doesn't stop this from being a very similar concept.

Actually, if you do some research, you'll find that Goku first went SSJ in 1990 - two years before Sonic went super in '92 ..

If anything it's in homage to DBZ - supposedly one of Sonic's creator's was a fan.

Protip guys: Super Sonic was based on the same legend that Dragonball was, aka the myth of 'seven legendary stars' that grant wishes, and the 'legendary golden warrior'.
