Anon 1, the reason they’re still in a will they won’t they kind of relationship is because comic book writers and editors don’t want Batman to get old. It’s the same reason the guys at Marvel unmarried Spider-Man without him getting a divorce: it makes them feel old. They want the characters to remain young and be self insert power fantasies instead of role models or actual developed characters. Why do you think they made Superman’s son older without actually aging Superman? Because they think an older Superman wouldn’t work, for some stupid reason.
