"I remember this story Norman told me...it was when he was about 9 years old. He remembered this one girl, said her name was Tanya. I vaguely remember her but she had Blue eyes, blond hair, her age was 12 last time he saw her and was pretty rude toward the other kids, like she'd tease or sometimes pull pranks on them. But she kinda went silent for about a week or two. Norman tried talking to her but she refused to talk, then day, around the end of November, after Thanksgiving, Mom gave her a nutcracker to celebrate Christmas. She had a fit and ran off. She came back about 10 minutes later, looking hopeless and sad. She got shipped off 2 days later. I wonder if she knew about the shipping but never said anything, just to not get attached. I wonder if she turned into a Mom though, or just became product. What do you think Ray...?"

Tanya wasting time bullying kids instead of climbing the ladder to become a grandmother? Getting sad? That doesn't sound like Tanya at all

First off, Anon1, Tanya didn't hang out with any of the children, at all. Second, age of conscription was set to late teens, meaning Tanya straight-up used a legal grey-area to even get into the military because they didn't expect a child to join. In fact, I'm pretty sure they were so strapped for cash that the children of the orphanage were malnourished, they wouldn't have had money to spare for toys.

In all likelihood the infamous Nutcracker was likely placed there as a piece of room decor, and judging by the context of this image, it doesn't make logical sense for this to be anything other than a dream of a different life.
