Actually, it is Godzilla. His name is Super Godzilla who is the title character for the super Nintendo game who was designed by Minoru Yoshida which he modified the design into the space kaiju we know today.

Anon 1 what the second anon say is true, Spacegodzilla was a modified redesign of the video game exclusive Super Godzilla from the SNES game of the same name. Here's some pictures comparing the two.

Bagan, the monster you see Super Godzilla fighting in this picture, was also exclusive to the game and in fact is the final boss. He was so powerful you had to transform Godzilla into Super Godzilla to beat him. He was planned for several movies but each time got dropped in favor of other monsters or the movie project as a whole would be dropped or altered.

@GodGundam52 You could say the same thing about Varan, he too has been planned for several movies only to be cut out in favor of another, an example of this is original Varan and Rodan would have helped Godzilla in Godzilla vs. Gigan but instead they had his teammate be Anguirus.

@Spirts it's so frustrating cause it actually has a good story, music and plot twists, how often can you say that about a Godzilla game? If the bioss fights just played out like a fighting game or beat em up it probably would have been a hit. For some reason when it comes to Godzilla games and anime they make baffling stupid decisions and it's like just make a good game/anime first then experiment with the sequel next.
