Despite being a horrible pervert with no boundaries and completely incapable of changing, there are moments when he shows his age and wisdom where you can take him seriously. It’s moments like that where you remember that this is the guy who developed the move everybody knows, loves and spams. The guy is important, worthy of dignity and respect and it’s a shame he’s often the butt of cheap pervert comedy or smut and buried by the increasing power gap only to be poorly written back to the top.
This is why I love and appreciate Avatar’s Iroh just for being better written in every conceivable way. The man has depth, a backstory and is still important and contributes by the end. But he can also bring some levity without completely ruining his own image and what you think of him.
