I prefer DLC over a third game, but half of the expansion pass should have been in the main game for it to feel complete

Tell that to every third version released since gen 1 which was full priced. Pokemon fans are used to get fucked in the ass since always and SW/SH's selling millions is proof that they have no standards. Good job telling Game Freak that whatever online outrage is an irrelevant minority.

As the second comment said, you don't need the expansions for old mon. The expansions only adds them into the wild of the new areas. But you can still do transfer and trades.

Third versions only sucked if you were the type who would buy both the base game and the third version. But suckers like that deserve their money parted anyway.

Back then you could just wait for the third version for only $40. Now you have to buy the base $60 game and have to buy the $30 DLC just to get the amount content you probably would have gotten from a measly DS game a decade ago.
