Wait, why is there only 2 pickups while the pickup selecter switch shows that there should be 3?

"pickup selector" works this way: left = bridge pickup, middle = both pickups, right = neck pickup

so it's all good

But what I see is the selecter in the midleft, which would be middle and bridge, meaning there should be 3 pickups.

anon4, there are many variations of tele now, some of them has four and even five-position selector switch for only two pickups - it's made for using various connection schemes between them: parallel, series, phase out, etc.

Anon 1 doesn't get it. The Tele isn't supposed to be sexy. In its most basic version, it is the definition of form following function. Everything about it is sound, there are no cosmetic frills because they contribute nothing to the tone. When Leo Fender took it to trade shows back in 1950, the sales reps there from Gibson and other companies mocked it and called it a boat oar... until they noticed all the guitar players loved the sound. That's why the Tele is hard to play, because you have no gadgets to hide behind. If you mess up, you can't lunge for your tremolo or toggle switch, mash on it a little and pretend "I meant to do that..." Everyone is going to hear it, and everyone is going to know.
