Although true Anon2, i don't think this picture was meant to be a joke on that fact, seems more like the illustrator just wanted an excuse to draw two versions of Witchblade (the original and the anime) at the same time...

There was a short-lived live action American TV series of Witchblade on the TNT network back in the 1990s, too. That's how I first learned of Witchblade.
