I tend to think they were bi as they both clearly wanted Charlie Brown too. Patty was direct about it, while Marcie dropped hints to him when Patty wasn't around.

Peppermint Patty always projected her liking "Chuck" onto him, and of course, he was too much of a blockhead for it to register. Marcie even actually confessed to Charlie Brown directly at one point (the August 17, 1982 strip I think), but he was such a blockhead for even that to register.
