And so the last remnants of mankind's might stood, facing an enemy they knew nothing of, save that it was not of their world. Knowing that they would die, they still stood, defiant to the last, for though their lives were forfeit, they would not give their alien foe one inch of ground without a fight, for they were human, and it is not in the nature of humans to lay down their lives without challenge.
