I’m actually amazed at how much porn and fan art a character that’s appeared in and maybe playable in a handful of games and some extra very niche stuff can inspire. I seriously don’t understand how her popularity has endured and lasted so long. You’d think she was the single most important female character in gaming. Makes me wonder why Square or whoever don’t just create a game centred around her since a Final Fantasy game with a female lead has been done before.

Well, it's a REALLY popular game, at least among RPG circles, and fairly legendary among gaming circles. And for those who have played FF7, especially when it came out, it's really no surprise that she's become popular and remained so.
