If you're honestly curious, and for anyone else reading this, what I had heard was they could not get all of the original creative team back together to actually work on the project. How much truth to this is pure speculation.

Anon1: Because Square knows that FF7 sucks so instead of rehashing crap they're trying to improve it by adding more stuff to it.

Honestly, the only reason FF7 is at all popular is because it was the first flashy RPG. The plot had more holes in it than Swiss cheese, the characters are boring, and the actual game play is mediocre at best.

Saying FF 7 sucks is a bit harsh, but I agree that it was far from being the 'Be all, end all'. Hell, Tifa was certainly a great asset to the game. And let's face it, she certainly had 'Great assets'. One of the cutest and sexiest RPG characters in my book.
