Well, it might not be that bad. Those "spiky beads" could actually be spiky pencil topper erasers: www.amazon.com/Geometric-...-Top-1-Pack/dp/B008RBWV0Q. At the elementary school I went to (now demolished and replaced with a larger building) I remember seeing a jar full of said erasers.
