So Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris introduced the theory of Gamera being Genbu, the Black Warrior of the North from the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations. But the Black Warrior wasn't one animal but two and is collectively shown as a turtle with a snake wrapped around it. Gamera 3 also showed a Gamera graveyard implying Gamera was the only one to survive the creation process or the others died in combat. I think it was a missed opportunity to not have them find the remains of a snake monster in that graveyard to both further imply Gamera is Genbu but also show that he is the surviving half of a kaiju team and his partner, his ally, is dead and Gamera is left all alone to protect the world from the Gyaos.

It would further help sell that he is the last hope as Atlantis calls him.
