Classic Girls' picnic
The subjects of this painting are Heidi (from Heidi), Anne Shirley (from Anne of Green Gables), Mary Lennox (from The Secret Garden), and Sara Crewe (from A Little Princess), enjoying a picnic together on a sunny summer afternoon up in the Swiss Alps near Heidi's home with her grandfather, which her friends have come to visit after being told so many stories about the place and hearing Heidi going on and on about the beautiful views. They are beautiful though.
Poor Mary is rubbing her feet, hot and tired as they are from the long walk up the mountainside in a pair of relatively light sandals, compared to her friends who wore sturdier walking boots. Heidi of course skipped gaily up the mountain ahead of the other three in her bare feet. ^^
