The most depressing thing about all this is it isn't even wrong. Nintendo's gaming's answer to Disney at this point: safe, stagnant, and sterile, and the only thing stopping them from going belly-up is they're the most successful of the bunch.

Koizumi never snuck a storybook into Mario Galaxy, Miyamoto explicitly gave him the OK to do so.
Dream Team was in the pre-alpha planning stages back in 2009, it definitely would've been effected by the mandates had Nintendo wanted it to be.
"Everything is squeaky clean nowadays" is a weird claim considering Origami King is the only Mario game to have an on-screen suicide, not to mention all the body horror.
