The damn space core. It's round, it doesn't age and it loves space. After the space core was done checking out all of space, it realized that the space was actually limited and needed to be protected from others. Therefore the space core brainwashed some humans into heavy duty guardian mutants. They'd go conquer planets and make sure noone touched the damn space. End of story.
